Vancouver Fashion Week A/W15

This was a dream come true for me! What an unbelieveable collaboration of fresh designers, stunning models and very enthusiastic people!! There are lots of eager models, actors, musicians and all round talented people all over Vancouver working their asses off to make it happen. It is great to see such an abundance of positivity and hard work in so many people. During my market research on agencies and fashion industry events in Vancouver I came across an advertisement for Vancouver Fashion Week SS15 on my search and decided to chance my arm and ask if they needed photographers, even though it was very last minute! To my utter shock and delight, I received an email the next day off the lovely media organizer Tiffani that informed me of an opening for the show! After a very high pitched scream, I told everyone I knew what I was doing. Being a massive lover of fashion, models, and runway this opportunity was a DREAM!!

I arrived on Wednesday afternoon to the Queen Elizabeth Theater in downtown to an open tent space and was greeted my a lovely English lass called Sam! We instantly clicked as we were both new to the country and had lots of chats about fashion and English breakfast tea I was given directions to the bag holding area and told to ‘Shoot Away!’ so I did. The atmosphere was very relaxed behind the scenes, with people chatting, designers steaming, models practicing, hairdressers curling, sound checks, mic checks, it was all happening but in a very calm and organized manor! Which I was surprised by as I have been on the organizing side of fashion events and also have walked as a model in shows I have seen major panics, stress, tears and tantrums!! The hair and makeup department was very fluid with lots of very creative and talented people working as a strong team to change looks very quickly between shows and make the models looks incredibly polished. I absolutely adored some of the looks, with each designer incorporating their own trend to suit their line. The VFW was sponsored by Cover Girl for Make-Up for the entire event. I was so excited to see this array of products as it is not produced in Ireland and it was my first time to see the vast range available. The make up area was like every girls dreams with boxes upon boxes of Cover Girl palettes, eye shadows, lipsticks, blushes, foundation, BB cream, lip-gloss…. you name it they had it!!

I had the pleasure of working backstage and capturing the preparation moments and also the stunning models entrance onto the catwalk! The buzz and excitement before a show is a great feeling, I missed modeling when I saw how much of a rush the girls got and how amazing they looked! But being on the other side of the camera is my passion and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Needless to say I had an EPIC two days, thanks so much to everyone involved, and to the organizers that did an incredible job and to the lovely Tiffani who gave me the opportunity. It was so nice to get to meet and talk to many talented people in the industry and I made some great contacts and friends that I will hopefully work with again in the future. I met my good friend & model/presenter Theres Amee whilst she was presenting at the show - we have big plans for a shoot very soon!

It is safe to say I am in love with the fashion industry and inspired even more to make the dream job a reality!

Love Nat x
